Reviewd in the Food & Drink Guide

"...The Miller of Mansfield has undergone a major transformation in recent years and has recently been awarded the highest possible accolade by the AA, earning five Gold Stars as a restaurant with rooms – one of only three such properties in all of Oxfordshire and Berkshire. This beautifully appointed restaurant… ..."

Checking in by Annabell Thorpe

"...Dining
This is what the Miller is really all about. The dining room is sleek and modern - all cream chairs and tables and dark, polished-wood floors, but a combination of good lighting, candles and a mellow jazz soundtrack helped to cosy it up. The food managed to be both hearty and subtle..."

"...The verdict
I always worry a little that "restaurant with rooms" is a synonym for "pretentious and overpriced". But the Miller is refreshingly unpretentious..."

Hotel review: An Inspector Calls at... The Miller of Mansfield, Goring-on-Thames by The Inspector

"...And then there's the food, which, once it arrives, is something of a revelation. My wife says her thick, creamy parsnip soup with a hint of cumin oil is out of this world and my chicken liver and foie gras parfait, with pear chutney, is faultless, too..."

The Inn Thing - The Miller of Mansfield: a creeper-clad country pub stay in a bucolic Berkshire village.

"...Silver and black room 7 has a raised Japanese-inspired bath big enough for two. Fiery 8 looks across the road to the church and packs a colourful fuchsia punch with its antique bed. Super-spacious suites 4 and 5 have extra little rooms with day beds, ideal if you’re travelling with a wee one..."

Clare Ferrier finds spacious rooms, superb food and a WC safari at The Miller of Mansfield in Goring-on-Thames.

"... I thought the Miller — named, puzzlingly, after an old Nottinghamshire ballad — was doing exactly what the modern incarnation of a coaching inn should. It had an easygoing atmosphere, helpful staff, a lovely Virginia-creepered redbrick façade, spacious rooms and great food..."

Timesonline 21 weekend breaks for September

"The Miller of Mansfield, a skip from Reading:
a lot of old coaching inns that have tried to turn themselves into modern-day shag palaces have failed embarrassingly, thinking that black uniforms, a faux-fur bedspread and a sprig of parsley on the fry-up qualifies as sexy. But you can certainly feel the love at The Miller of Mansfield in Goring-on-Thames, where the rooms have been renovated in trendy country-house style, with plenty of statement beds and clever, decadence-inducing colour schemes..."

Harper's Bazaar The Miller of Mansfield, Berkshire, United Kingdom,
Reviewed by Mr & Mrs Smith

"Red-brick, tile-roofed and originating in the 18th century, the Miller of Mansfield inn stands proud, sidled up to a flint cottage and opposite a Tudor-topped corner chapel, a stone parish church and a lovingly tended green: in this Berkshire-borders village, even the post office is worthy of a watercolour. Inside the pub, real ales, cosy fires and hearty food are backed up by the comfortable, contemporary rooms upstairs....."

Almost all the villages along the Thames are sweet, but Goring is so magnetically charming it's the kind of place that might make you think England was a good place to invade. If you weren't already English, that is,...
(...) The bill - £19.95 for three courses - was so low that I just assumed they'd made a mistake, so I sent it back (ha! Imagine what I'm like to live with). At lunchtime it's even less - £14.95. So get down there sharpish, for soon they shall go bankrupt.

Gunpowder Magazine / August 08 (...) The Miller of Mansfield seems quite happy to go with this – open fires crackle in the bar, battered brown-leather armchairs are filled with Telegraph-reading couples, and roast beef and Yorkshires are served up on Sundays. But such pre-war trappings are balanced out by stylish, modern design – particularly in the bedrooms, where striking flock wallpaper contrasts effectively with white linen and simple furniture – as well as cocktails and tapas-style dishes in the bar, and an inventive menu that makes clever use of local produce."

Guardian.co.uk 20 top rural escapes in the UK

"If you don't want to travel too far to enjoy a slice of country life, the Miller of Mansfield might suit. Only eight miles or so outside Reading, in the pretty riverside village of Goring-On-Thames, this is an 18th-century inn reinvented for the 21st century. Its 10 individually styled bedrooms feature strikingly contemporary decor - including patterned Cole & Son wallpaper and Philippe Starck Ghost chairs - while the hotel's shabby-chic bar serves up pints of local ale. There's also a fairly sophisticated restaurant. Just the place to recuperate after a day out on the Berkshire Downs."

Times online 10 British hotels with great chefs

(...) Sidled up to a flint cottage, and opposite a Tudor-topped corner chapel and a stone parish church, this 12-room Grade II-listed red-brick inn on the Berkshire/Oxfordshire border blends traditional fittings with chic modern design.
The restaurant, a sedate space of white-and-cream décor, is where chef Mehdi Amiri produces dishes such as slow-cooked local chicken, hand-rolled linguine in a lobster sauce, and monkfish with mash and snails. Walk off the calories on the nearby Thames path afterwards.

Guardian.co.uk These boutiques were made for walking

"(...) I arrive in Goring from Paddington and walk to the Miller of Mansfield. This 18th-century inn has a cosy front bar where wooden tables and stools sit alongside leather wing chairs, and real ale is dished out to guests and locals alike. The restaurant is a more sedate space of white-and-cream decor.
I'll need fuel for the next day, so I opt for the six-course tasting menu; a fish broth, terrine of foie gras, scallops on ratatouille, monkfish with mash and snails, three cuts of pork and a selection of desserts. Full of food and trepidation, I retire to my room, which is a stylish combination of Art Deco furniture and silver flock wallpaper.
My first day of walking starts pretty well...."

Paddy Burt stays at The Miller of Mansfield, High Street, Goring on Thames, Oxfordshire.

"(...) Soon a waiter is bringing us beautifully arranged appetisers, which include segments of skinned tomato, plus various bits of exotic-tasting vegetables, all decorated with a sprig of lavender. Now for starters proper: mine is coconut-fried scallops, mango salsa and lemon-grass dressing, accompanied by a coffee cup of coconut soup, while my husband enjoys his confit duck terrine with tiny cubes of apple that have magically been flavoured with lavender......"
